The Second World War was the conflict that shaped the modern world. From Berlin to Colditz Castle, this unique tour visits some of the great German cities and infamous locations that were at the heart of Hitler’s Nazi state, in the company of an eminent historian.

Delve into Germany's fascinating history on this Second World War themed break, exclusive to Mail on Sunday readers.

Your immersive tour begins in Berlin - where you will visit the Reichstag, Check Point Charlie, and the DDR (former East Germany) Museum - before heading to Dresden, the 'Florence of the Elbe'. Much of the city was destroyed in the Second World War, but it is now home to magnificent architecture and fine art collections, which you will discover in the company of an expert guide.

You will also spend the day at Colditz Castle, the imposing Renaissance stronghold which was converted into a high security prison during WWII. It is a stirring reminder of the plight and pluck of the prisoners of war, who were famed for their heroic escape plans - which later inspired many books, films and TV series.

You will be joined on this fascinating holiday by the famous WWII historian, TV presenter and regular Mail on Sunday contributor Guy Walters. Guy will give two exclusive talks to readers during your trip. The first will be in Berlin, where he will draw on his superb history of the 1936 Olympics, Berlin Games: How Hitler Stole the Olympic Dream. The second will coincide with your behind-the-scenes tour of Colditz Castle and shed fresh historical light on the Allied PoWs' now legendary attempts to escape. Guy is the author of The Real Great Escape, an acclaimed history revealing the truth behind the audacious escape from Stalag Luft III later immortalised in the 1963 film.

"I'm really looking forward to joining you on this tour. Berlin is Europe's buzziest capital but also steeped in history, Dresden is stunning, and even after several visits to Colditz I still get that thrill that every Brit gets when you suddenly see the famous white castle emerge like a fang on top of that Saxony rock."
